Margrett George

Interim Director

I moved to the Coast in 1990 with my husband and commuted to work until I retired in 2018. I worked as a lawyer in private practice for 4 years, then moved in-house to work as counsel defending lawyers for professional negligence. I later became the Deputy Director of Insurance for the Law Society's lawyers' insurance program, responsible for underwriting, coverage for lawyer theft, and risk management. I've been involved in various volunteer activities since moving to the Coast, including serving on the Gibsons Zero Waste Committee and the SCRD's Agricultural Advisory Committee, and I’ve recently come out of retirement to take on some shifts as a cashier at Super Valu.

On a more personal note, I've seen the tremendous value of hospice and palliative care in helping my family navigate the experience of dying, and I believe strongly in the principles to which the SCHS is committed.

Coast Hospice

Providing compassionate care to individuals facing end-of-life and their families since 1987. Whether at the hospital, in your home, or in one of the four temporary hospice rooms at Silverstone Care Centre, we are here to support you. We also offer programs and services for grief support, bereavement, and advance care planning, with the assistance of trained community volunteers. In partnership with Vancouver Coastal Health, we are working towards opening the Coast’s first dedicated residential hospice in 2026.
