Coast Hospice Program Centre

We are located in Davis Bay at 4602 Simpkins Road (Sechelt)

What happens at the Program Centre?

For more than 35 years, Coast Hospice has offered a wide range of support to people in our community during their end-of-life journey and to their loved ones experiencing grief and bereavement.

With 100+ trained volunteers and a small staff team, we provide companionship and support to people in their homes, in the community, in hospitals, and in long-term care facilities.

We also create various programs to support the community, such as The Circle: A Wellness Day Program, The Healing Arts Series, Complementary Therapy, and Grief Support Groups, which are hosted at the Program Centre in Davis Bay or in the community through partners.

Our beloved Program Centre wouldn’t be the stunning hub of community and connection it is without the support of Rosemary Hoare. Described as “the most perfect combination of total warmth, lightness and love, and a very clear, focused intellect”, Hoare generously donated a legacy gift to Coast Hospice to cover the building’s rent for 10 years, enabling SCHS to have a permanent home. Rosemary Hoare continues to be our inspiration; without her, Hospice would not exist here on the Sunshine Coast.

If you would like to continue this legacy gift, please contact our Manager of Development and Community Partnerships at nancy.grenier@coasthospice.com or 604-740-0475 ext. 2.

A Space for Reflection and Connection

Our Program Centre offers a beautiful, welcoming, peaceful and safe environment for the entire community. We are a place to pause, reflect, and find comfort, regardless of situation. Our hours of operation are Monday to Friday between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., although you may come to the program centre to use the Wind Phone and the Reflective Garden, 24/7.

We welcome the community to enjoy our grounds at your convenience; we hope it brings you peace.

Visitors are invited to spend time in our garden of reflection, where the calm water fountain (installation by local artist Rob Studer) creates a sense of peace and stillness.

Thank you to all our volunteers who helped create this stunning garden: Kim Bower, Joyce Fundytus, Alan Ireland, Tracy Scott, Cheryl Topping, Brian Topping, Bill Elsner, and Ruth Strad.

Our Kate Webb Library is a welcoming space for reflection, learning and comfort. Thoughtfully curated, it offers books and resources on grief, caregiving, end-of-life, and the human experience—available to all. Drop in to check out a book, explore our collection, or ask us for support on your journey, Monday to Friday between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Our Wind Phone offers a quiet, private space for connection and reflection. Allowing visitors to express thoughts and emotions to those they miss. With no expectation of response, it offers comfort through presence, intention, and the act of speaking aloud. Available to all members of the community, the Wind Phone invites moments of comfort, release and remembrance.

Thank you funders

Each year, Coast Hospice submits grant applications and competes for available funding from various philanthropic organizations. These grants help top up what we receive from the community and represent as much as 40% of the critical funds needed for our work in volunteer recruitment, training, and coordination, in support of the development and delivery of programs and services offered to residents at the Program Centre at no cost. We are grateful to have received grants from:

  • Sovereign Order of St. John of Jerusalem, Knights Hospitaller, Vancouver Commandery

  • Sunshine Coast Foundation

  • Sunshine Coast Health Care Auxiliary

  • Sunshine Coast Regional District

  • District of Sechelt

  • Government of Canada “New Horizons” Grant

  • Marin Foundation

  • Province of BC (Gaming Grant)

We are deeply grateful to the Town of Gibsons for its continued annual funding, which provides essential, sustained support for our work in the community.
