Marion’s Story: Lights of Life 2025

Dear Community,

Marion Cork at Hospice House in Davis Bay

When my daughter encouraged me to try something new, for myself, I was hesitant because the word “hospice” scared me. I thought it was only for people who are at the very end of their life. But I quickly discovered that The Circle, A Palliative Wellness Day Program, and hospice in general, isn’t all about death—it’s about living.

When I first joined The Circle, I was nervous and unsure. Social situations made me anxious, and I often preferred to stay home rather than put myself out there. But week after week, things shifted, and I felt myself changing. Today, I walk into the group with a smile beaming across my face and an ease within my soul that I never thought possible.

The Circle has helped me care for myself—mentally, emotionally, and physically. I try to attend both sessions each week because I always leave feeling stronger and more connected. I’vefound that I have more energy to play with my great-grandson, who visits me often, and that ability is something I cherish deeply.

I enjoy the laughs, the lunch, the company and most importantly, the meaningful conversations. The Circle has supported me so much that I even talk to people now, not just during the sessions but in my daily life too; I’m more outgoing and feel less isolated. The transportation option that Coast Hospice provides makes it easier for me to get there, and the support I receive, free of charge, has become an essential part of my well-being. I look forward to every session and never want to miss one.

This program, along with the staff and many volunteers at Coast Hospice, has changed my life. They’ve supported me to find the strength, comfort and connection that comes from building a community, and it is my desire that more people within our beloved Sunshine Coast community can do the same.

Please consider donating to Coast Hospice so that many more people can experience the life-changing services that are available right here in Davis Bay.

With heartfelt thanks,

Marion Cork!
