Sunshine Coast Hospice 2022-23 Volunteer Awards

The recognition of three exceptional volunteers is the highlight of our society's Annual General Meeting held every June. These awards celebrate individuals whom, in their own unique way, make significant contributions to making our community more compassionate.

In 2022-2023, our amazing volunteers donated over 5,000 hours in support of hospice community programs and services, including one-on-one support, outreach activities, and administrative and groundskeeping projects. Without these contributions, Hospice couldn't deliver the level of support

Patsy Green earned The Grace Award. Patsy has volunteered for over two years as a companion to palliative and grieving clients. Patsy's gentle and caring presence brings comfort and peace to those facing the end of life or coping with loss. Patsy has taken the training for and facilitated Grief Groups and is a key volunteer in The Circle, our wellness day program offering social and recreational activities for clients and respite for caregivers.

The Heart of Hospice Award was presented posthumously to Sarah Doherty. Sarah touched many lives in her work as a pediatric occupational therapist and developing Sidesticks. Her husband Keith and sister Susan accepted the award on her behalf.

Jackie Scott, who has been instrumental in developing our information systems and establishing our Advance Care Planning (ACP) program, earned the Roey Award. The Program features community workshops, volunteer support and a resource kit or "Green Sleeve" that stores medical information and advance care plan documents in case of a medical emergency or a health decline.

We are grateful to these volunteers and all the others who make our hospice a place of hope and healing. Thank you for your service, and congratulations on your well-deserved awards!
