Conversation with a paramedic about Green Sleeve

In this interview with Yvonne Lewis, a Sunshine Coast paramedic, she describes how important it is for people to describe their wishes for care in a Green Sleeve, and to store it in a place that is easy to find in your home. Once paramedics find your Green Sleeve, they will have all of the important medical information easily accessible in one place.

This is the reason why your Green Sleeve includes a wallet card and two green stickers:

  • You can carry the card in your wallet, in case an emergency happens while you are not at home

  • You can place one green sticker on by the front door of your home, and the second one on the outside of the drawer where your Green Sleeve is stored

Sunshine Coast paramedics are trained to look for green stickers when they enter a house as a sign that you have completed your Green Sleeve or advance care plan. They will ensure they’ve honoured your wishes.

The Sunshine Coast Green Sleeve Advance Care Planning program began as a collaboration between Sunshine Coast Hospice, BC Emergency Health Services, shishalh Nation, and the Sunshine Coast Division of Family Practice.
