Hospice Rooms at Silverstone

Sunshine Coast Hospice works in partnership with Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) to support the four hospice rooms and family lounge at Silverstone Care Centre (5625 Derby Road) in Sechelt.

To be eligible for a referral to a hospice room, you must be registered in the VCH palliative care program. You can learn more by asking your family doctor or the VCH Sechelt Home Care office at 604-741-0726. Once registered, you can request a referral to a hospice room.

Hospice volunteers and staff are available to provide compassionate support for residents admitted to Hospice care and their families. Contact Coast Hospice for more information at 604-740-0475.

We are here for you. Whenever and wherever you need us.

Silverstone Care Centre, opened in early 2024, is owned and operated by Trellis corporation. The facility has four dedicated hospice care rooms. The Vancouver Coastal Health palliative team is responsible for making referrals to these suites.

Coast Hospice and its volunteers can often be found near the hospice rooms and adjacent family lounge. We are here to make the space as comfortable as possible and we offer companionship and compassionate support to residents and their families. At the request of family or nursing staff, we can also provide bedside vigil.

What is Hospice care?

Hospice is a special type of care, so it is not tied to a place. It can be offered at home, in a care facility or hospital, or in a separate hospice suite. It primarily focuses on comfort and dignity of a person with a serious illness who is approaching death. It especially seeks to honour the patient’s values and wishes for end-of-life care, and how they envision their passing.

Your wishes for care

You can discuss your wishes for end-of-life care in advance with your loved ones and family doctor through the development of a Green Sleeve Advance Care Plan, a community program offered through Sunshine Coast Hospice.

Watch Living with Dying: Circle of Support

I consider the three months I spent at Shorncliffe Hospice before my husband passed away to be a blessing I could not have imagined. The staff were extremely good, and they really liked my husband and gave him so much attention.
