Gerry retired in 2013 as Director, Sechelt Hospital, after working for 40 years in healthcare. In the summer of 2013 their very close friend, Theo van Rijn, was diagnosed with ALS. Theo chose to spend the last eight months of his life living with Gerry and Greg and passed away, at home, August 26th, 2014. Currently Gerry is Chair of the Sechelt Hospital Foundation, President, Sunshine Coast Botanical Garden, and a member of the SC GP for Me Advisory committee. In her free time Gerry loves to garden, travel and enjoy the Coast with family and friends.
Bernadette Richards is the Coordinator of Volunteer Services with the Sunshine Coast Hospice Society and an active volunteer with palliative clients, especially sitting vigil with those who are very near to the end of their lives.
Eddie Berinstein has been practising Family Medicine on the Sunshine Coast since 1980. He has been involved in all aspects of Family medicine over the years but has had a special interest in End of life Care. He has been part of the Sunshine Coast’s Palliative care team for the last several years.
Petrina Wing, Palliative Care Coordinator
Petrina Wing has been a registered nurse for 30years, and came to Palliative Care nursing via midwifery in the UK. She has provided palliative care in the community, as a home care nurse, in the UK, Vancouver, and here on the Sunshine Coast. She also worked on the Palliative Care Unit at St. Paul’s Hospital in Vancouver for 5 years. Petrina helped to set-up and run the first Hospice beds on the Sunshine Coast and is deeply committed to providing the best possible care to people, and their loved ones, who are facing life-threatening illness.
