Hospice Rooms
Pictured above are the two palliative care rooms together with a family room, and the patio/garden area.
Our two palliative care rooms and adjoining family room have been provided through fund raising carried out by our Sunshine Coast Hospice volunteers.
The medical care is provided by the nursing staff at Shorncliffe Extended Care Facility where our Hospice rooms are located. This care is carried out in partnership with Vancouver Coastal Health who charge our patients a per diem rate.
Support for these patients and their family members is provided by our dedicated Sunshine Coast Hospice volunteers. This support includes using the “listening skills ” we have learned through both our training and our experience.
Rooms offer a tranquil setting with provision for a family member to spend the nights with their loved one. Just outside of the family room is a beautiful patio and garden area for those who enjoy the outdoors also maintained by our volunteers.
Referral to Sunshine Coast Hospice can be made through your family Doctor, family members, friends or by by self-referral.
Caring Quilts!
Lois Anderson and Nancy Climie donated lovingly made quilts to the Sunshine Coast Hospice Society in December 2011.
Lois generously created 4 bed topper quilts for the hospice rooms at Shorncliffe. All quilts are reversable and two have a Christmas theme on one side. The quilts were delivered just before Christmas for hospice patients and their families. Nancy’s quilt is hung in the Quiet Room at Kirkland Centre, the office and training space for the Sunshine Coast Hospice Society.
The Quiet Room is used for one-on-one grief support for those grieving a loss of a loved one. The butterfly theme was chosen as the butterfly is used as a symbol by many hospice societies world-wide. Drawings and carvings of butterflies, done by children, were found on concentration camp walls by Elisabeth Kubler-Ross, an expert in the area of dealth and dying.
