Services
Hospice facilities:
- Two hospice beds and family room at Shorncliffe Intermediate Care Facility for individuals with terminal illness
Companion care at the end of life:
- Respite for caregivers caring for terminally ill family members.
- Understanding and compassionate support to clients, their families and their friends during the last stages of illness and during bereavement
- Volunteers will visit in homes, hospital or other care facilities
- Our volunteers have all taken a 30 hour training course including a session on death and dying as outlined by BC Hospice Palliative Care Association and Victoria Hospice
Grief and bereavement support:
- One-on-one grief support is available for individuals experiencing the loss of a loved one.
Support is offered in the home or in the quiet room at our office and training space at Kirkland Centre in Davis Bay - Grief support groups are available in the spring and fall in Sechelt and Pender Harbour
The groups meet for 8 weeks – a choice of an afternoon or evening group is offered - Children grief support will soon be available – volunteers will be taking training fall 2011

Palliative Care:
- Sessional support for Physician palliative care coverage has been re-instated for the Sunshine Coast (including Howe Sound). Drs. Wadge and Berinstein are back on board with the palliative program.
- Background: This change was recently announced by the Medical Director, Peter Edmunds Palliative Care, VCH-Coastal.
Library:
Over 100 books are available for the public. Topics include: Dying, Grief, Mind & Body, Medicine, Terminal Care, Rituals, Spiritual Healing and much more.
Brochures:
Over 10 brochures and booklets are available. Example of titles: What to do When Someone Dies, Experiences of Grief, Help Yourself to a Good Nights Sleep.
